Client Overview: Client is a managed service provider specializing in high end application development services. In order to effectively provide that service, continual hiring of talented software developers is a core concern for their business.
Problem
Client’s sales efforts in the quarter before engaging Solving IT were extraordinarily successful. As a result, they did not have the number of software engineers needed to kick off all of the project work planned.
Client’s Talent Acquisition team was strong, but not large enough to quickly meet the larger than normal hiring demand in a very competitive hiring market.
Client also has a very high hiring standard, extending offers to fewer than 2% of applicants for software engineering roles.
Finally, as a result of their business model, every hour the Client’s engineering teams spend interviewing is an hour that they cannot spend on billable work.
Solution
Solving IT Talent used its LABS process to collaborate with the Client’s Executive and Talent Acquisition teams to design a recruiting process and team. We spent time Learning the ideal hiring profile for our Client, as well as understanding why the Client’s current software engineers loved working there.
Solving IT Talent was able to Align a team of recruiters well suited to recruiting on software engineering roles, resulting in a larger number of ‘top of funnel’ candidate interactions than our Client could achieve on their own. To Build the Client’s team, we created a custom screening process consisting of two interviews with Solving IT and a programming test prior to interviewing with the Client team.
Finally, we supported each hire through the offer phase, during onboarding, and their initial months with the client in order to ensure a quick ramp and lower the possibility of turnover.
Outcome
Over the first two months of engaging with Client, Solving IT Talent’s process resulted in 8 software engineering hires against 14 candidates interviewed.
Our detailed screening process also allowed for the elimination of 2 client interview steps: Interview with Talent Acquisition and Phone Interview with Senior Software Engineer.
As a result, Solving IT Talent was able to decrease Client’s overall time to hire as well as reducing the number of engineering hours per hire by over 80%.
Client has seen 100% of offers extended to Solving IT candidates be accepted. Client has also experienced no turnover among candidates placed by Solving IT Talent.
