Xamarin Lightning Talks

May 4 @ 5:45 pm - 8:00 pm

Xamarin Lightning Talks

We are going to try a new format for this month’s meetup and host series of informal Lightning talks covering a variety of topics.

If you have a topic you would like to talk about for 5-15 minutes please send me a message (via meetup). It could be something that you’ve been working on, something that excites you, perhaps your experience with a library you have used, something new, old, in fact anything topic you think the group would find useful or interesting. Lightning talks are great introduction to speaking as they are short and focused – you don’t need a lot of preparation and you don’t have to be an expert!!

We have five talks currently confirmed:

• Drawing 2D graphics with SkiaSharp – Mike Stonis, EightBot

• Offline-First Architecture with Xamarin – Jackson Hayes, West Monroe Partners

• Integrating Xamarin with your car using ODB2 and Bluetooth – Adam Kerr, West Monroe Partners

• Xamarin build automation, using the tools you know – Evan Roth, Productive Edge

• Buy, Sell or Hold app, a trading app in Xamarin – Denise James

• Adding Microsoft Cognitive Services to your Xamarin App – Brandon Minnick, Xamarin Customer Success Engineer

I will add other talks to the list as they are confirmed.

If any of the topics interest you, or you just want to network with other members of the Xamarin community, please come along! As usual food and refreshments will be provided.

Agenda

5.30 – 6:15:  Food, drinks, and networking

6:15 – 8.00:  Lightning Talks (and more networking!)

Xamarin is a cross platform compilation framework which enables developers to write native applications for a variety of non-.NET platforms including iOS and Android using C# and .NET libraries.

Xamarin consists of a mono framework for Android, iOS and OSX and an SDK that includes C# wrappers for native API bindings, and a set of associated development tools. This allows developers to develop native iOS and Android apps in C# using the mono (.Net) framework. Xamarin currently supports all features of .Net 4.5.1, and all API’s in iOS 10.x and Android 7.x.

Xamarin is now included in Visual Studio 2015 and 2017, including the Community editions, which supports cross platform development and common code for Android, iOS, OSX, Windows RT and Windows UWP from a single code base. It is also included in Visual Studio for Mac and its own IDE for Mac, Xamarin Studio. It provides support for PCLs, Shared Libraries, Universal Apps, and .Net Standard.
