Data Science treats data as a given and neutral. But is it neutral? In this talk we will explore the ethics of data collection, data analysis, and the algorithms used in the modeling of data.

About the Speaker

Ovid Jacob is a physics post-doc at SLAC, where he developed a novel way to quantize fields which solved a long-standing problem, worked on computational physics problems, applied statistical physics to non-linear optimization problems and constrained optimization problems. He has 15+ years experience in computer software as tester, developer in computer networking, performance measurements, cloud computing, data center provisioning; data scientist, with interest in ethical facets of data acquisition, algorithms, analysis.

About Metis
