High Impact Data Science Applications
October 11 @ 6:30 pm
We’ve partnered with Domino Data Lab to bring you two fantastic data scientists to talk about data science applications. More about their talks below.
Doors open at 6:30 pm and the talks will start at 7:00 pm. Light refreshments will be available, and there will be time for attendees to chat with each other and with the speakers.
Bonus: We will be giving away tickets to Domino’s upcoming Data Pop-up event on Nov. 14! More details about the pop-up event below.
About the Talks:
Jess Freaner will talk about Data Science + Design: Delivering Value in the Medical Liability Insurance Space. She will walk through the process and discuss the untapped data science potential in the field.
Donour Sizemore will talk about Data Analytics in Professional Motorsports.
Most observers do not realize that motorsports is a large engineering endeavor, with billions spent annually on R&D. In this talk, the speaker de-mystifies the process of racecar design, testing, and competition. Tools and methods are discussed as well as the current frontiers in industry. The speaker illustrates how data analytics is used across the sport, from grassroots leagues to NASCAR and Formula 1.
About the Speakers:
Jess Freaner – Data Scientist, Datascope Analytics
Jess Freaner is a Data Scientist at Datascope Analytics. Before joining Datascope, Jess was a data scientist consultant with IBM Advanced Analytics and Watson Experience where she was part of the ideation and execution of advanced analytics engagements for global Fortune 500 clients across industries. After receiving her BA in Psychology from New York University, she taught herself to code COBOL and worked more than four years in trade finance supporting an international client base. Outside of Datascope, Jess loves to tinker and create, whether that means whipping up something new in the kitchen, DIY-ing a costume or getting down and dirty with her latest home improvement project.
Donour Sizemore – Vice President, Two Sigma Investments
Dr. Donour Sizemore is Vice President at Two Sigma Investments in New York. From 2011 to 2014, he served as a Trackside Systems Director for Michael Waltrip Racing. In this role, he developed custom software for design, testing, and race strategy, as well as introduced HPC into the design process and developed and deployed advanced networking systems. He also served as a visiting researcher at Sun Microsystems (2009), where he researched performance and feature enhancements for the Solaris operating system. He was also a technical programmer and the Director of Research Computing at the University of Chicago Economics Research Center (2003 to 2005).
About the Data Science Pop-up:
More amazing speakers at the Data Science Pop-up on November 14th, a day of fascinating talks on data science applications in insurance services.
Join us in Chicago for a day-long event bringing together data science professionals who are passionate about asking the right questions and identifying problems worth solving. Share ideas, develop best practices, and network with others in the field. We hope to present real stories about the cutting edge work being done today.
Location: 1871, Suite 1212. 222 W. Merchandise Mart Plaza
