ChiPy Scientific SIG mob takes over Metis! Data Science 101 kickoff
May 4 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
“Data science” is one of the buzziest terms in tech. Unfortunately for many newcomers, a quick Google search of “what does it take to be a data scientist” returns a dizzying number of skills ranging from being a programming guru to “machine learning ninja with a side of 10+ years of domain knowledge” (We’ve all seen that Venn diagram). This can drive away even the most resolved individual. We’re here to hopefully make your introduction to Data Sciencie a bit less intimidating, all through the lens of the PyData ecosystem.
We’re a proud sponsor of this event. See the original event post on the ChiPy Meetup Page.
While future events will run as workshops, with each event covering a particular topic or skill in detail, this kickoff, is going to be a mob programming session with groups working on example take-home data challenge problems.
What is a mob programming session you might ask? To paraphrase someone else’s description – it is one screen, one keyboard, and one problem being worked on together as a group. Group members will take turns writing bits of analysis code under the suggestions and guidance of the rest of the group. Never written a line of code before? No big deal, this will be great opportunity to give it a shot.
So whether you’re someone who hears the word “pandas” and thinks of those furry bamboo-eaters from the east, or you’re that machine-learning ninja mentioned above, we hope to see you there!
