Companies are having to offer a variety of benefits to attract top talent, many of which help employees achieve a better work/life balance. Flexible scheduling and the ability to work remotely gives more tech workers a chance to adjust their schedules to better manage obligations in their personal life. Additionally, the availability of mobile technology and growing access to cloud computing solutions makes it easier to work even while on the road.
IT workers also enjoy a fairly low average hours worked per week, coming in at just 43.5. While it isn’t uncommon for some employees to put in long hours during new implementations or certain projects, the low average suggests these demands are counterbalanced at other points during the year.
Pushes for Diversity
While any skilled IT professional has the potential for a strong career, women may be especially well-positioned as companies look to increase diversity among their workforce. In 2017, the gender gap is still large, with women only representing approximately one-quarter of the total tech-oriented workforce.
