One of the world’s largest insurance brokerage and risk management services companies provides a full range of insurance services globally, extensive employee benefit consulting, and actuarial services. They are a $5 billion plus company with more than 21,000 employees worldwide, and have operations in 30 countries around the world.
Due to challenges with quality, and timeliness, the company decided to bring this development team in house. The current SharePoint environment was highly customized to support one practice area within the organization, and could not be easily adopted by other teams. Solving IT assisted by placing a senior-level SharePoint / .NET Developer to round out their team. In his first three months, he has undertaken several projects related to integrations between SharePoint and Salesforce systems, slow development times and non-uniform coding practices, and preparation for future scalability and flexibility of the existing SharePoint environment.
Additional contributions include:
- Created timer jobs to synchronize account information across Salesforce and SharePoint systems.
- Created a separate SharePoint Development farm
- Implemented unit testing
Because of the way the remote timer jobs were developed, they have taken some of the load off the current system and will allow our client the flexibility to move to Office 365. The enhancements made will also provide more flexibility for the system to be adopted by other practice areas throughout the organization. The creation of a separate farm has changed the way the development and increased the speed of developing projects. The implementation of the unit testing has increased the quality of coding and resulted in a more uniform approach.
